Tomatoes, Vegetables

Those Dang Birds

We have had our raised bed garden for three years and the birds have not bothered us at all. We have never provided bird seed or water for the birds on purpose so that we wouldn't attract them. But now we have birds eating our tomatoes.
I think it is an Abert's Towhee.
First we put up a scare crow, but as you can see it is a little lame. The birds are smarter than we think. I hung a cd by the tomato that they pecked on and that seemed to help, but I don't have a lot of extra cd's either.

So I bought some bird netting from Home Depot. It was $9.97 for a 14 x 14 foot role. We have wooden raised beds, so we stapled the netting to the raised box.  I'm not sure how we are going to pick the tomatoes, but they are not quite ripe yet. I guess we will figure that out later. Ha! Ha! But for now the tomatoes are safe.
