I am sooo excited. When you find out what I am excited about.. you will think I am crazy. I found out a friend of mine has chickens. So I asked him to save me a box of chicken poop when he cleanes out his coup.

Today I bought a Home Depot bucket. I put my chicken poop and straw into the bucket and filled it with water. Now I just have to wait a week for it to get good and stinky. Then I will have the best fertilizer that money can’t buy. Totally free.

When it gets good and stinky, then I will put a 1 lb coffee can of the watery soup on my growing garden. My plants will be sooo happy.

My parents used chicken poop soup with their gardens over 60 years ago. My dad always said it was the best fertilizer to use. Chicken poop is a very hot fertilizer so you can’t put it directly on your plants. You either have to put it with you mulch and let it sit for 6 months or more, or you have to do what I do and make a soup/tea out of it. The poop will last for a long time because every time I take some of the soup out, I put more water into it.

Not everyone likes this kind of mess in their back yard, but for us, we really love our garden. We ate some of the carrots last night. They were so sweet. Our broccoli is so tender. Tonight I am going to make spaghetti using our tomatoes we preserved from last spring and summer. This is the best!!
